E-Mail, Spam, & Your Forecasts
As the number of forecasts and alerts that WeatherWorks has issued in recent weeks has gone up markedly (thanks to the very active pattern that we have been in), we have received a few reports of our forecasts being labeled as Spam and not getting through. The WeatherWorks IT, E-Mail, and Programming Teams have put forth great effort over the last few weeks to make sure our forecasts and alerts are not viewed suspiciously by various e-mail providers. In addition to upgrading to a high-volume mail server dedicated just to forecasts and alerts, we have been working directly with several e-mail providers to further our efforts.
However, we need your help as well on a few fronts:
- Please only put recipients on the Client Contact Sheet that would actually like to receive forecasts.
- Please do not mark our forecasts as spam. If you no longer wish to receive them, reach out to your organization's point of contact with WeatherWorks to be removed from the Client Contact Sheet. Marking the e-mail as spam may prevent others...even in your organization...from receiving our emails.
- Enter WeatherWorks forecasters that you typically get forecasts from in your address book.
- Talk to your e-mail administrator about putting the weatherworksinc.com domain on a "White List". This will allow WeatherWorks forecasts to bypass any spam filters.
- Opt for business/unique domain e-mail addresses when possible. Personal e-mail providers like Yahoo! and AOL have some of the most restrictive Spam settings.
- Consider creating an automatic internal forwarding system for WeatherWorks forecasts. Mail servers often do not like the same e-mail going to numerous users around the same time. While not necessarily flagged as "Spam", oftentimes when forecasts are sent to 3+ users at the same time, significant delays occur. We've seen reports of some colleagues getting the same forecast as much as 2 hours later than others.
