January 19, 1997 Storm Summary

     Light snow overspread NJ from southwest to northeast between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. As the day progressed, the snow mixed with and changed to rain in southern NJ after 3 pm. The rain / snow line advanced northward in the evening and made its way into central NJ after 6 p.m. However, the temperature in central NJ remained below freezing and these areas saw the snow mix with and change to sleet and freezing rain at times. Elsewhere, light snow continued to fall and slowly accumulate. After 10 p.m., the precipitation changed back to all snow from central NJ southward. The snow across the state finally tapered off to flurries after midnight.
